We're Still Here!

Hey Fans!

In case you've wondered if we are still in the vintage clothing peddling biz. YES, we are. We spent a good portion of the summer traveling around the great state of Pennsylvania to various thrift locations and yard sales. Just wait until you see what we have to offer! With the piles of new merchandise also comes laundering/dry cleaning, mending, and up-cycling, so we've been busy bees.

Stay tuned this week for new merchandise! Tell your friends!

BIO: My stuff spans a broad range, from painting to photography to animation to pen & ink illustration to music to puppetry to cooking to graphic design. My inspirations come from everything from knitting pattern catalogues to 1920s German Expressionist films to children's work to Art Nouveau to my friends to British and Canadian children's programming to the entire pre-1986 Fisher Price toy lineup. I collect typewriters and cookbooks with horrible graphics.

The Past and Pending/Jessica and Kristen
Vintage clothing, accessories, shoes, and wares.
Website:http://www.etsy.com/shop/thepastandpending
BIO: The Past and Pending arose from a love of collecting vintage clothes and other vintage trinkets. Our ethos is based on the quality of vintage clothing and the ability to recycle and up-cycle, therefore perpetuating the life of clothing that can be styled into any modern day wardrobe.

Suzanne Bruening
Fused Glass
Website: http://www.artbreak.com/suzannebruening
BIO: a 2001 Penn State graduate, with a bachelor of fine arts
degree in sculpture and a bachelor of science degree in art education. She took
her first fused glass class at The Creative Oasis in 2003 where she fell in love
with the process and the technique. She bought her first kiln before the class
was over and now teaches the same beginning class she took over 10 years
ago.

Website: http://www.etsy.com/shop/kayemkay
BIO: my parents bought me a sewing machine for christmas when i was in high school. i touched it only a few times, making square pincushions... and larger square pincushions which i referred to as pillows. I hated threading the machine, so it wasn't long before i gave up.Though, i still don't derive any pleasure from threading my machine, i am very pleased to make things that my friends call "cute". Now i spend my free time making purses and recycling old thrift finds. I'm always up for trying something new; shoes, hats, upholstery. I hope to be able to make something you like, something that you'll call "cute".

Veronica Roo's Valuables/Veronica Barnett
Website: http://www.etsy.com/shop/veronicaroo
BIO: Honestly, I just wanted to make weird earrings. I wanted them to be different, for the "different" kinds of earring wearers all over this diverse earth. What I came up with is a wide array of earrings for all kinds of people. My earrings feature things such as recycled ipod parts, doll baby eyes, beautiful Czech glass flowers, freshwater pearls, semi precious stones, glass beads, dyed shells, random silver plated or pewter charms, and even conversational beads that can tell people that you are "spy-ful" or a "little devil". They have been fashioned together with either silver-plated earring findings (earring hooks and head pins, or earring stud backs), 925 Silver, antique brass, copper, and recently I have started using rose gold.

Knit Pistols: Audrey & Hannah
Hand-knitted accessories
Website: http://www.etsy.com/shop/thread
Bio: We love to knit and nothing makes us happier than making knits for others.  Our knits are made with a variety of natural fibers: wool, alpaca, mohair, cotton and more.  Hannah loves to run with greyhounds and celebrate with a cupcake!  Audrey tends to be obsessed with mid-century modern graphic design and shiny things.  Our ultimate dream would be to run a yarn-cupcakes-wine boutique.

Dan Hubner
Crocheted Hats
Website: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=46166365558&ref=ts
BIO: The HubCaps idea emerged from the eclectic snowboarding culture that I have longtime been a part of. Making out of the ordinary hats began as a small hobby simply for my personal use and enjoyment, but quickly took flight when friends and others took interest in them. Now with the help of my hometown senior center and a few donations from local businesses I am making and selling HubCaps where half of all profits are being donated to Penn State's THON dance marathon.

Accidental Charm: Sandra Park
Handmade jewelry, knitting charms, vintage
Website: http://www.etsy.com/shop/accidentalcharm
BIO: Accidental Charm is a one woman operation run by yours truly.  I've had this need to be doing something with my hands for as long as I can remember, be it origami, sewing (very poorly), drawing (even worse), knitting, crocheting, jewelry-making, etc.   Born in NYC and raised in Northern Jersey I am moved to State College earlier this year.  Some of the finer points of living in Central PA I've learned to truly appreciate are Wegmans and free refills on soda.  My interests include: vintage Pyrex, street fashion photography, Johannes Brahms, Art Deco, hot dogs.

Mark your calendars! Fourth UAM event!

The Underground Artisans Marketplace
November 6, 2010
3-8pm
Chronic Town (224 W. College Ave)
State College, PA

The Underground Artisans Marketplace, the first “alternative” arts and craft show to surface in State College, is inspired by the “alternative crafts” movement. The ideas of “buying local” and “going green” are reinforced in this style of market by introducing recycled, upcycled, and repurposed items as new art, by talented local artisans.

In recent years hip, alternative craft shows have been emerging in big cities. New York hosts Bust’s Holiday Craftacular http://www.bust.com/craftacular/bust-holiday-craftacular-2009-ny.html) and San Francisco has the Bazaar Bizarre (http://www.bazaarbizarre.org/sanfrancisco/) and Maker Faire (http://www.makerfaire.com/).

State College is continuing the trend by highlighting its own local artisans. Artisans from the Centre Region will be selling handmade clothing, jewelry, and stylish home decor; original artwork, pottery, upcycled and repurposed vintage clothing and wares, graphic design, DIY and more! Vintage vinyl will be on sale from The Music Underground.

Busy, busy, busy!

It may seem like Kristen and I have been quiet lately. However, I assure you we've been busy little bees. We are shifting gears a bit, though.

Since our local -- and very beloved -- hookah lounge/café of sorts/music venue, Chronic Town, is poised to reopen next week, we've been helping them prepare for the big day. The dear establishment has been closed for 15 months due to a fire and other hang-ups; thus, we want to pitch in as much as possible. They do employ me after all!

It is also possible we have subconscious ulterior motives. (I guess they are no longer subconscious as I just acknowledged them. Oops!) We are proud to be organizing and hosting our first craft show, Which Craft?, at Chronic Town on April 25th! We are so excited to be doing this. It gives us a chance to meet other crafters, enjoy other works, and create a sense of community in our small town. If you're in the State College, PA area, please stop by! And here's hoping it goes off without a hitch!

But never fear, we have not neglected the Past & Pending for other crafty people and other projects. We recently listed some springtime men's items. The wonderful Jesse modeled for us again AND we got the ever-charming Corey to strike a pose. Talk about making love to the camera!

Plus, here's the event invite to Which Craft? on April 25th.

Workaholics

Kristen and I had our second full-blown photo shoot last night with our favorite photographer, Alice Teeple. We had some lads of ours, Jesse & Corey, model our menswear and Kristen was a champ modeling for the women's clothing. Unfortunately, I had to sit this round out as I am still recovering from a terrible head cold. (I've been such the little old lady, carrying around stashes of hard candies for my coughing fits.)

Still, the shoot had to go on! The gang knocked out some great photos for some really fun new items! Plus, I had the chance to do serious organizing of our inventory. This means more items more quickly. Kristen and I are really excited to post all our fantastic finds on Etsy as soon as we can. Look for them in the next few days!

For updates and information when new items are posted, don't forget to be our fan on facebook and on twitter. All comments, questions, and concerns are welcome!

Oh the treasures you can find...

Over the weekend, I went to an even more rural part of Pennsylvania than where I live to visit the boyfriend. Of course, I played it off as I wanted to come see him so we could spend some quality time together, relaxing. However, he saw through that. He knew the real reason I wanted to visit was to go looking for vintage treasures. Like the dutiful companion he is, he agreed to take me scavenging Saturday morning. (If there's anything he's learned over the past year and a half, it's that nothing stands between me and clothes.)

So we set off early in the morning, coffee in hand, to seek out new and exciting pieces. Selfishly, I was looking for myself as well as for our little store. Luckily, I hit the jackpot. I found plenty of items to appease my need to expand my wardrobe, but i found even more to sell! Of course, everything needs a little tender love and care, which I am happy to provide.

Off I go to clean and fix up all these wonderful new items! I cannot wait to share them!

XO,

J

Please check back frequently and share our enthusiasm. We think you will enjoy the unique variety of vintage and handmade goods we have to offer.

Thank You for checking in!

Re: An important announcement.

There is some movement happening in the space that houses the clothing and goods of The Past and Pending. Photo shoots have already taken place and the pics are in the process of being cataloged along with the items. Rainy days have proved good for thrifting and our inventory continues to pile up.

We are really excited to share our fine vintage clothing and goods with you. So, check back early February, you won't be disappointed!
